New Delhi, August 27, 2025: Indian cricket legend Ravichandran Ashwin has officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), marking the end of a 16-season-long journey. After stepping away from international cricket in 2024, the veteran spinner has now decided to bid farewell to the IPL as well, leaving behind a remarkable career filled with records and iconic performances.

Ashwin played 221 matches in the IPL, taking 187 wickets with his clever spin variations. He was part of two IPL title-winning campaigns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and later represented Rising Pune Supergiants, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. In 2025, he made a homecoming to CSK, completing his IPL career where it began back in 2008.

Apart from IPL success, Ashwin remains one of India’s greatest spinners in world cricket with over 500 Test wickets and six centuries. Known for his tactical brilliance and innovative bowling, he now looks forward to exploring new opportunities and mentoring young talent. His retirement brings down the curtain on one of the most influential careers in modern Indian cricket.
