Liverpool, September 12 – India’s Minakshi assured the nation of its fourth medal at the World Boxing Championships 2025 with a commanding 5:0 win over England’s Alice Pumphrey in the women’s 48kg quarterfinals. The 24-year-old from Rohtak, a World Boxing Cup Astana silver medallist, dominated the bout from the opening round with her superior reach and sharp technique.
With this victory, Minakshi joins compatriots Nupur (80+kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), and Pooja Rani (80kg) in the semi-finals, guaranteeing India a strong medal tally at the inaugural event organised under the newly-formed World Boxing body. India has fielded a 20-member squad in the tournament being held in Liverpool.
In men’s 50kg, debutant Jadumani Singh Mandengbam fought bravely against former world champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay of Kazakhstan but suffered a narrow 0:4 defeat. Later today, Jaismine and Nupur will compete in their respective semi-finals, aiming to secure India’s first gold medal match berth of the championship.
