India stamped their authority in the opening Test of the series, defeating the West Indies by an innings and 140 runs inside three days at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
After bowling out the visitors for just 162 in their first innings, India piled up a commanding 448 for 5 before declaring, gaining a 286-run lead. KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja all posted centuries to dominate the batting department.
In response, West Indies fared no better in their second innings, getting bundled out for 146. Jadeja once again stood out — not only did he remain unbeaten on 104, but he also picked up four wickets for 54 runs, earning him the Player of the Match honors.
India’s captain, Shubman Gill, described the performance as “perfect,” lauding the team’s collective effort in batting, bowling, and fielding. He was supported by a balanced spin attack, including Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Washington Sundar.
West Indies captain Roston Chase acknowledged the team’s inability to form partnerships and said they must improve their batting, particularly in India’s spin-friendly conditions.
The second and final Test of the series will begin in New Delhi on October 10.
