The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has named Santiago Nieva as the new Head Coach of the Indian Women’s National Boxing Team, marking the return of the renowned Swedish high-performance expert ahead of a crucial Olympic cycle. Nieva previously served as India’s High Performance Director from 2017 to 2021 and rejoins at a time when Indian women’s boxing is witnessing record success.
India’s women boxers recently delivered a historic performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025, winning seven gold, one silver and two bronze medals, including podium finishes in key Olympic weight classes. Nieva’s immediate mandate includes strengthening India’s push for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics by building consistent medal contenders across all seven women’s divisions.
With over two decades of elite coaching experience across India, Australia and Sweden, Nieva brings world-class technical depth to the programme. BFI President Ajay Singh said his appointment will significantly boost India’s long-term Olympic preparation, while also acknowledging outgoing coach D. Chandralal for his valuable contribution.
