Australia have announced an unchanged squad for the second Ashes Test at the Gabba starting December 4, confirming that Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will miss another match. Both pacers trained in Sydney during the week but were not declared fit, meaning Steve Smith continues as captain for the Day-Night Test.
Usman Khawaja has also been retained despite a back strain that limited his involvement in Perth, where he scored just one run before an awkward fall prevented him from batting in the second innings. Travis Head, who opened in Khawaja’s absence and smashed a rapid 123 off 83 balls, remains a possible option at the top if Australia decide to rest Khawaja and include all-rounder Beau Webster in the middle order.
Australia lead the five-match series 1–0 after their dominant win in Perth. The squad will regroup in Brisbane on November 30 as they aim to extend their advantage in the Ashes.
