South Africa outplayed India by 51 runs in the second T20I in Chandigarh to level the three-match series 1-1. Quinton de Kock was the star of the night, smashing a stunning 90 off 46 balls to set the tone for the visitors. Supported by skipper Aiden Markram and finishing bursts from David Miller and Donovan Ferreira, South Africa posted a commanding 213/4.
India’s chase got off to a disastrous start, losing Shubman Gill for a golden duck and slipping to 32/3. Tilak Varma fought back with a fluent half-century, but regular wickets at the other end halted India’s momentum. The Proteas bowlers kept tight lines, with Ottneil Baartman delivering a decisive spell.
Baartman finished with four wickets, dismantling India’s lower order and ensuring the asking rate remained out of reach. Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and others couldn’t shift gears as the pressure mounted. India were eventually bowled out for 162 in 19.1 overs.
With the series now tied, both teams will head to Dharamsala for a high-stakes decider on Sunday. South Africa will aim to carry forward the momentum, while India will look to bounce back and seal the series at home.
