Rohit Sharma smashes fastest List-A ton on Vijay Hazare Trophy return, powers Mumbai to big win

Rohit Sharma marked his return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy in stunning fashion, blasting a 62-ball century against Sikkim in Jaipur on Wednesday. Chasing 236/7, the Mumbai skipper opened the innings with Angkrish Raghuvanshi and gave his side a flying start, bringing up his fifty in just 28 balls with a flurry of fours and sixes. He went on to reach his fastest List-A hundred in 62 deliveries, surpassing his previous 63-ball ton against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Playing his first Vijay Hazare Trophy match since 2018, the 38-year-old dominated the inexperienced Sikkim bowling attack, eventually scoring 155 off 94 balls, including 18 fours and nine sixes. His explosive knock helped Mumbai cruise to victory in just 30.3 overs with eight wickets to spare, sealing a commanding start to their Group C campaign.

The match also witnessed massive fan interest, as the Rajasthan Cricket Association announced free entry, leading to over 10,000 spectators thronging the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. With no official live streaming available, clips of Rohit’s big hits quickly went viral on social media.

This was only Rohit’s second century for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the first coming in 2008 during his debut match in the tournament. His latest knock takes his List-A century tally to 37, with 33 of those scored for India in international cricket. Mumbai’s bowlers earlier triggered a Sikkim collapse after Ashish Thapa’s 74, restricting them to a modest total that Rohit and his side chased down with ease.
