India Shines with Multiple Medals on Day 1 of New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix


New Delhi: Indian athletes delivered an outstanding performance on the opening day of the New Delhi 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix, winning several gold medals and dominating multiple events.

In the Men’s High Jump T42, Shailesh Kumar won gold with a jump of 1.84m, while Ramsingbhai Gov Padhiyar (1.65m) and Lokesh Mantra (1.60m) secured silver and bronze respectively, completing an Indian podium sweep. India repeated the feat in the Men’s High Jump T44, where Praveen Kumar claimed gold with 1.96m, followed by Unni Renu (silver) and Banti (bronze).

India’s Preeti Pal clinched gold in the Women’s 100m T35/T37 with a time of 14.46 seconds. In the Men’s Discus Throw F11/F12, Monu won gold with 34.30m, ahead of Praveen Sharma and Sanjay Reddy Neelam, giving India another clean sweep.

The Men’s Discus Throw F37 saw Haney win gold with a throw of 50.95m, while Rishi Raj Rathore and Bhavishay took silver and bronze. India also dominated the Women’s 1500m T11/T12 with Soumya, Rakshita Raju, and Radha Venkatesh claiming all three medals.

Around 257 athletes from eight nations are competing in the event, with India fielding the largest contingent of about 219 athletes, highlighting the country’s growing strength in para athletics.
