Bangkok, March 15: India wrapped up its campaign at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok with an impressive tally of five medals, including one gold, three silver and one bronze, highlighting the country’s growing strength in youth boxing on the international stage.
The standout performer for India was Chandrika Pujari, who clinched the gold medal in the women’s 51kg category. She delivered a dominant performance in the final, defeating Uzbekistan’s Mardonova Nazokat by a unanimous decision to secure the top podium finish.
India’s young boxers showed remarkable determination throughout the tournament, competing across the Youth Olympic weight divisions against strong international opponents. Their consistent performances ensured that half of the Indian contingent returned home with medals.
Three Indian boxers finished with silver medals after reaching the finals in their respective categories. Gunjan settled for silver in the women’s 48kg division after losing 5-0 to an opponent from England. Joyshree Devi also finished with silver in the 54kg category, going down 4-1 against a boxer from the United States. In the men’s 50kg division, L. Ambekar Meetei secured another silver medal for India after losing his final bout to Ukraine.
Radhamani Longjam added to India’s medal tally by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 57kg category after a hard-fought semifinal loss to Ukraine’s Yevanhelina Petruk.
The tournament, held from March 8 to 15 in Bangkok, featured promising young boxers from across the world. With the 2026 Youth Olympic Games approaching, the event provided valuable international exposure for India’s rising boxing talents.
