New Delhi, April 30, 2026: India is set to begin its campaign at the Asian Boxing U15 & U17 Championships 2026, starting tomorrow in Tashkent, with a strong 56-member contingent. The tournament will feature Asia’s most promising young boxers across multiple weight categories.
The Indian squad reflects a balanced mix of talent in both boys’ and girls’ divisions. In the U-17 category, 13 boxers each will compete in both sections across weight classes ranging from 44–46kg to over 80kg. Meanwhile, the U-15 teams will include 15 boxers each in boys’ and girls’ categories, covering weight divisions from 30–33kg to above 70kg. Each squad will be supported by dedicated coaching staff and physiotherapists, ensuring optimal preparation and recovery.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, highlighted the importance of the tournament as a platform for young athletes to gain international exposure. He noted that boxing has emerged as one of India’s top-performing sports in recent years, consistently delivering medals at global and continental competitions.
The championships are expected to play a key role in identifying future stars, with many participants likely to progress to senior international levels. India’s structured grassroots development program and growing talent pipeline have contributed significantly to its rising stature in world boxing.
With a strong squad and support system in place, the Indian team will aim to deliver an impressive performance and continue its upward trajectory on the international stage
