New Delhi, July 16: India captain Rohit Sharma could play his final One-Day International in the third and last ODI against England at Lord’s on July 19, according to a report by The Indian Express.
The report claims that the BCCI’s senior selection committee has informed Rohit that he is not part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The selectors are understood to have discussed the matter with the veteran opener and head coach Gautam Gambhir during the ongoing England tour.
According to the report, the selection panel is looking to build a younger squad for the future, with players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal expected to receive more opportunities. Rohit has reportedly been left to decide his own future after the England series.
The 39-year-old has already retired from T20 Internationals after leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and stepped away from Test cricket in 2025. He also relinquished the ODI captaincy, with Shubman Gill taking over the leadership role.
Rohit remains one of India’s greatest ODI batters and captains, having led the team to the 2023 ODI World Cup final and transformed India’s approach with an aggressive batting philosophy.
The BCCI has not issued an official statement on Rohit’s ODI future. If the report proves accurate, the third ODI at Lord’s could mark the end of an illustrious one-day international career.
