Joe Root Returns to ICC ODI Top 10; Rohit Sharma Closes Gap on Virat Kohli

England batter Joe Root has re-entered the top 10 of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings following his outstanding performances in England’s historic ODI series win over India — their first such triumph over India since 2018.

Root climbed four places to eighth after scoring unbeaten knocks of 76, 99 and 74 in the three-match series, returning to the ODI top 10 for the first time since 2020. His England teammate Ben Duckett also made major gains, jumping 11 places to joint-19th after smashing 141 at Lord’s, the highest individual score in a men’s ODI at the iconic venue.

Among Indian batters, Rohit Sharma narrowed the gap on Virat Kohli after his brilliant 138 at Lord’s. Rohit and Kohli remain third and fourth respectively, while captain Shubman Gill is second, just one rating point behind New Zealand’s top-ranked Daryl Mitchell. Shreyas Iyer moved up two places to 13th after scoring 66 in Cardiff.

In the bowling rankings, West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph rose 10 spots to 26th, while India’s Axar Patel climbed to 32nd. New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner advanced to fourth after strong performances against the West Indies, while Gudakesh Motie entered the top 10 at joint ninth.

In the ICC Men’s T20I rankings, Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan reached a career-best 20th position after starring in a series win over Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett achieved a career-best ninth spot, while pacer Richard Ngarava climbed to 32nd after taking eight wickets in the series.
