The Oval to Host ICC World Test Championship Final 2027

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that The Oval in London will host the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2027, scheduled to be played from June 9 to June 13, 2027. The venue previously hosted the 2023 WTC Final, where Australia defeated India to lift the coveted mace.

England secured the hosting rights for the next three WTC Finals (2027, 2029 and 2031), with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) selecting the venues. The 2027 final will hold added significance as it coincides with the 150th anniversary of Test cricket.

The race for a place in the WTC Final is intensifying. Australia currently lead the standings with an impressive 87.50 points percentage, followed by defending champions South Africa (75%) and New Zealand (72.22%). Bangladesh have emerged as strong contenders after a 2-0 series sweep over Pakistan, while two-time finalists India are fifth with a points percentage of 48.15%. Sri Lanka, England, West Indies and Pakistan remain in contention but need strong performances in the remaining fixtures.

Several crucial Test series over July and August are expected to shape the standings, including West Indies vs Pakistan, Australia vs Bangladesh, Sri Lanka vs India, and England vs Pakistan.

ICC General Manager Gaurav Saxena said The Oval has played a historic role in Test cricket and expressed confidence that the 2027 final would be a memorable celebration of the game’s rich legacy. ECB Managing Director Neil Snowball added that the successful staging of the 2023 final made The Oval the ideal venue once again.

New Zealand (2021), Australia (2023) and South Africa (2025) are the three previous World Test Championship winners.
