Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his impressive rise by creating a new record in the Duleep Trophy during East Zone’s semi-final against Central Zone in Bengaluru.

At just 15 years and 175 days, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player in Duleep Trophy history to score a half-century. He reached the milestone from only 42 deliveries, sealing his fifty with a six.

The youngster went on to make a confident 92 from 81 balls before missing out on a century by just eight runs. His aggressive innings came at an important stage for East Zone and helped his side gain control of the contest.

Sooryavanshi broke a record that had remained untouched for more than five decades. Laxman Singh previously held the distinction after scoring a Duleep Trophy fifty at the age of 16 years and 23 days in 1969. Piyush Chawla had also reached the milestone at a young age in 2005.

The teenager had already attracted attention earlier in the match after briefly taking charge of East Zone. Captain Ishan Kishan was forced to leave the field after suffering a wrist injury, allowing Sooryavanshi to serve as stand-in captain for a short period.

He also made an impact with the Decision Review System, successfully reviewing an appeal against Central Zone batter Aryan Juyal.

Central Zone were dismissed for 266, with Mukesh Kumar and Abhijit Sarkar taking three wickets each. Mohammed Shami and Md Kounain Quraishi claimed two apiece.

For Sooryavanshi, the semi-final has become another landmark moment in his rapidly developing cricket career.
