New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, with the games scheduled to be played from September 13 to 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Shreyas Iyer will lead the Indian side, while Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain. The squad largely features the same group of players selected to represent India at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.
The biggest talking point is the return of Jasprit Bumrah. The fast bowler had been out of action after suffering a knee injury during India’s ODI series in England. However, his participation in the Afghanistan matches will depend on receiving fitness clearance.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana are also subject to fitness clearance before taking the field.
Sanju Samson has returned to the squad after being rested for the Zimbabwe series, while young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also been included. Arshdeep Singh, who was rested during the Zimbabwe tour following a busy international schedule, is back in the team as well.
India’s squad includes a mix of experienced campaigners and young talent, with Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi also featuring.
India squad: Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Sanju Samson (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Tilak Varma (Vice-Captain), Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.
