AU Small Finance Bank Launches UPI for NRE/NRO Accounts with International Mobile Numbers

Mumbai, August 20, 2025: AU Small Finance Bank (AU SFB), India’s largest small finance bank, has rolled out Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services for Non-Resident External (NRE) and Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO) account holders using international mobile numbers. This follows NPCI’s directive enabling NRIs to access UPI without requiring an Indian SIM card, making digital payments more seamless for the Indian diaspora.

With this launch, NRIs across 12 countries—including the USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Malaysia, France, and Hong Kong—can now link their NRE/NRO accounts to UPI. Customers can perform secure, real-time transactions for bill payments, money transfers, and merchant purchases within India, directly from their international numbers, without additional charges.

Commenting on the rollout, Mr. Uttam Tibrewal, ED & Deputy CEO, AU SFB, said: “By enabling UPI for NRE and NRO account holders with international mobile numbers, we are empowering NRIs to stay financially connected to India with ease and convenience. This is a transformative step in expanding digital banking access for the Indian diaspora, aligned with the Government’s Digital India mission.”

AU Small Finance Bank, which has grown into India’s largest Small Finance Bank since 2017, continues to strengthen its digital-first approach with innovations like AU 0101 app, video banking, and WhatsApp banking. With over 2,505 touchpoints across 21 States and 4 UTs, the bank serves more than 1.16 crore customers and is now enhancing its global NRI banking services with this UPI integration.
