In a landmark move underscoring India’s growing role in global sustainable mobility, SWITCH Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group, has flagged off the first batch of 10 electric buses (out of 100) to Mauritius. These SWITCH EiV12 buses are a special gift from the Government of India to the Government of Mauritius, under a unique Government-to-Government agreement. The ceremonial handover was graced by Hon. Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius, and dignitaries from both nations, highlighting the strategic bilateral relationship and commitment to clean energy.
Manufactured at SWITCH’s state-of-the-art facility in Chennai, the EiV12 electric buses embody the “Make in India, for the World” vision. The buses are designed for modern city travel, blending global technology and Indian engineering. With seating for up to 45 passengers, the EiV12 offers world-class standards in performance, safety, comfort, and efficiency—demonstrating India’s rising capability as a global EV production hub.
These e-buses will be operated by Mauritius’ National Transport Corporation (NTC), following a competitive tender by India’s Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). Engineered for Mauritius’ urban transit demands, the EiV12 ensures reliability, durability, and sustainable public transportation. The buses also feature SWITCH iON, a cutting-edge telematics platform offering real-time fleet and vehicle health monitoring.
Safety and smart design are central to the SWITCH EiV12. Key features include an advanced Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), rear-end dual-gun rapid charging, and LFP battery packs mounted for optimal balance and vehicle stability. These innovations deliver a smooth ride and reduced operational downtime, making them ideal for high-density city routes.
This milestone marks SWITCH Mobility’s continued global expansion and showcases India’s expertise in manufacturing world-class electric vehicles. As SWITCH delivers on clean and intelligent mobility solutions, this partnership with Mauritius reaffirms a shared commitment to a greener, more resilient future in public transportation.
