Guru Dutt’s 100th Birth Anniversary: 4K Restored Classics to Release Nationwide from August 8–10

July 2025:
To mark the centenary of legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt, Ultra Media & Entertainment Group, in collaboration with NFDC-NFAI, is set to host a nationwide theatrical retrospective of his most iconic films.

From August 8–10, over 250 cinemas across India will screen newly restored 4K versions of five of his masterpieces:

Pyaasa (1957): A disillusioned poet’s soulful journey, hailed as one of India’s greatest films.

Aar Paar (1954): A stylish Bombay noir mixing romance, crime, and unforgettable music.

Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960): A Technicolor classic of love and friendship set in Lucknow’s Nawabi era.

Mr. & Mrs. 55 (1955): A witty romantic comedy critiquing modernity and gender norms.

Baaz (1953): Guru Dutt’s directorial debut, a swashbuckling period drama set during colonial rule.

“This is not just a tribute but a cultural movement to connect generations through cinema,” said Sushilkumar Agrawal, MD & CEO, Ultra Media & Entertainment Group.

Prakash Magdum, MD, NFDC, added, “Restoring these films preserves a priceless legacy under the National Film Heritage Mission, ensuring Guru Dutt’s vision lives on.”

This special event invites cinephiles, film students, and new audiences to experience Guru Dutt’s poetic storytelling, cinematic elegance, and timeless themes in stunning 4K clarity—bridging the past and present on the big screen.
