The Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Championship kicked off with dominant performances from leading contenders Sikandar Shaikh, Shivraj Rakshe, Prithviraj Mohol, and Harshvardhan Sadgir, all registering convincing opening victories to begin their title campaigns.
Among the standout performers, Nashik’s Balu Bodke stole the spotlight with an impressive run in the mud category. Emerging as a dark horse in the tournament held at Wagholi, Bodke displayed exceptional skill and aggression. In his opening bout, he stunned Kolhapur’s strong contender Mauli Jamdade with a commanding 10-5 victory. He followed it up with an even more dominant performance, defeating Hitesh Patil of Jalgaon 10-0 to secure his place in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the top seeds lived up to expectations. Sikandar Shaikh (Solapur) defeated Aniket Mangde (Pune district) 8-1 in the mud category. In the mat category, Shivraj Rakshe (Pune) crushed Pratik Jagtap 10-0, while Prithviraj Mohol (Pune) overpowered Arun Chalawade (Jalna) with a similar 10-0 scoreline. Harshvardhan Sadgir (Nashik) also delivered a flawless performance, defeating Pratik Deshmukh (Beed) 10-0.
With these strong starts, Rakshe, Mohol, Shaikh, and Sadgir have positioned themselves as top contenders for the prestigious double Maharashtra Kesari title.
As the competition intensifies, all eyes will be on Balu Bodke, whose fearless performances have added an exciting twist to the tournament.
