Mumbai / New York, August 19, 2025: Cricket entered history books as Times Square hosted its first-ever cricket match during the India Day celebrations organized by Cricmax Connect and the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA).
The three-day festivities began on August 15 with a flag hoisting at the Consulate General of India, followed by the lighting of the Empire State Building in the Indian tricolour, joined by actor Vijay Deverakonda.
On August 16, Times Square turned into a cricket pitch where U.S. national players Sai Mukkamalla, Yasir Mohammed, and Smit Patel joined the symbolic game. Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan faced the first ball, marking the historic moment.
The event drew huge crowds of Indian Americans, cricket fans, and New Yorkers, celebrating the sport’s growing presence in the U.S.
“This is more than historic – it shows cricket’s future in America is brighter than ever,” said Vinay Bhimjiani, Founder & CEO, Cricmax Connect.
