Dhoni’s Role Under Spotlight: Impact Player Debate Sparks Retirement Talk

MS Dhoni has once again become the center of discussion ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Former cricketer Aakash Chopra stated that if Dhoni plays only as an Impact Player, it might be the right time for him to consider retirement.

Speaking on JioStar’s ‘IPL Today Live’, Faf du Plessis emphasized that Dhoni’s real value lies in his tactical brilliance and on-field presence rather than just his batting. His ability to read the game and influence decisions from behind the stumps remains unmatched.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are already planning for the future, with Ruturaj Gaikwad leading the side and Sanju Samson expected to play a key role in the transition.

Chopra also highlighted that Dhoni’s impact is strongest when he is actively involved on the field. Limiting him to an Impact Player role could reduce his influence on the game.

All eyes are now on IPL 2026 to see how CSK utilize the legendary cricketer in what could be his final season.
