Dubai, September 26: Team India sealed a dramatic win over Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025, edging past their opponents in a Super Over finish after both sides ended on 202/5 in 20 overs. The match, though a dead rubber, provided high-voltage entertainment and gave India a massive confidence boost ahead of the final.
Sri Lanka were powered by Pathum Nissanka’s brilliant century (107 off 58), decorated with 7 fours and 6 sixes. He built a solid 127-run stand with Kusal Perera (58 off 33) to put India under pressure. However, Harshit Rana dismissed Nissanka on the first ball of the 20th over, halting Sri Lanka’s momentum and restricting them to 202/5.
In reply, India’s chase was spearheaded by Abhishek Sharma’s fiery knock of 61 off 31 balls, which included 8 fours and 2 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 196.77. He found good support from Tilak Varma (49 off 34)* and Sanju Samson (39 off 23), as India matched Sri Lanka’s total to take the match into a Super Over.
The Super Over turned into a one-sided affair. Arshdeep Singh bowled a dream over, conceding just 2 runs and dismissing both Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka for ducks. Chasing 3, Suryakumar Yadav smashed the winning runs off the very first ball bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga, sealing India’s third consecutive win in the Super Four stage.
Although the result had no impact on the points table, India topped the Super Four with three straight victories. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, failed to win a single match. The stage is now set for a blockbuster India vs Pakistan final on September 28, with both teams eyeing the prestigious Asia Cup 2025 trophy. Notably, Pathum Nissanka was named Player of the Match for his brilliant hundred despite being on the losing side
