Guwahati, September 30: India got off to a flying start in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 with a convincing 59-run victory (DLS method) against Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
Batting first in a rain-curtailed 47-overs-a-side contest, India recovered from a collapse at 124/6, thanks to a brilliant 100-run stand between Deepti Sharma (53) and Amanjot Kaur (57). Their half-centuries powered India to a competitive 269/8.
Sri Lanka began their chase positively, led by captain Chamari Athapaththu (43 off 47), but India’s spinners soon turned the game. Deepti Sharma (3 wickets), Sneh Rana (2 wickets) and debutant Shree Charani (2 wickets) dismantled the middle order. Sri Lanka folded for 211 in 45.4 overs, falling well short.
With this win, India not only opened their campaign on a high but also gained a healthy +1.503 net run rate.
