India vs South Africa, 1st Test: SA win by 30 runs

South Africa clinched a thrilling 30-run victory over India on Day 3 of the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Defending a small target of 124, the visitors bowled with remarkable discipline as off-spinner Simon Harmer led the attack with four crucial wickets.

Earlier in the match, India posted 189 in their first innings, but suffered a major setback when captain Shubman Gill injured his neck and was ruled out. South Africa replied with 159, taking a narrow 30-run lead, with Temba Bavuma top-scoring with 55 — the highest score of the entire Test.

Chasing 153 for victory in the second innings, India collapsed to just 93 runs as South Africa’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure. None of the Indian batters managed to play a stabilising knock, leading to a dramatic finish well inside three days.

With this win, South Africa take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The teams now move to Guwahati for the second Test starting Saturday, where India will aim to level the series.
