The upcoming sixth season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has received a major boost as Indian sports consortium Witness Sports Alliance LLC acquired the Colombo franchise, unveiling its new identity as the Colombo Kaps. The ownership, led by entrepreneurs Saranyan Palaniswamy and K.C. Shyam Kangayan, marks a significant milestone with Indian investment entering the league for the first time.
The move underscores the LPL’s growing international stature, further strengthened by the participation of Indian players this season. “Their entry reaffirms the LPL’s position as a competitive and commercially attractive league,” said Samantha Dodanwela, Director of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Palaniswamy and Kangayan bring deep franchise cricket experience from India, having previously been associated with the Ruby Trichy Warriors in the Tamil Nadu Premier League and the Ruby White Town Legends in the Pondicherry Premier League. Their vision is to build a strong, fan-driven, and professionally managed team in Sri Lanka.
Season 6 of the LPL will run from December 1 to 23, 2025, across Colombo, Dambulla, and Kandy. With five franchises and 24 matches in 24 days, this promises to be the most exciting season yet. The Colombo Kaps are set to reveal their team identity, jersey, and key signings soon.
