MCA honours Mumbai’s women captains as ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Trophy Tour reaches city

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honoured women’s cricketing icons by unveiling a special wall featuring photos of Mumbai’s women captains at the Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy, BKC, on September 15, coinciding with the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Trophy Tour with DP World. The ceremony, attended by MCA President Ajinkya Naik, Apex Council members, and several international and domestic cricketers, celebrated the contributions of these trailblazers while inspiring future generations.

The event also marked Mumbai’s strong legacy in women’s cricket, from Diana Edulji captaining India in the 1978 World Cup to current star Jemimah Rodrigues set to feature in the upcoming 13th edition, with Sayali Satghare named in reserves. Players and officials posed with the World Cup trophy, highlighting the city’s enduring passion as the global tournament returns to India after 12 years.

Speaking at the occasion, MCA President Ajinkya Naik and Secretary Abhay Hadap stressed that the tribute wall is not just a recognition of past leaders but also a symbol of pride and motivation for aspiring cricketers. The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 will take place from September 30 to November 2 across Navi Mumbai, Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo.
