Ahmedabad, August 25, 2025: India’s weightlifting star Mirabai Chanu made a stunning comeback by clinching the gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025. This was her first competition since finishing fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Competing in the women’s 48kg category, Chanu lifted a total of 193kg (84kg snatch + 109kg clean and jerk) to top the podium. The victory also sealed her direct qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Snatch: Cleared 84kg on her second attempt (missed first), failed at 87kg
Clean & Jerk: 105kg (successful), 109kg (successful), failed at 113kg
Total: 193kg (Gold)

Significance of the Event
The 30th Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, held in Ahmedabad, features more than 300 lifters from 31 nations. Winners in each senior category secure automatic qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
