South Africa scripted history by defeating England by 125 runs in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 semi-final at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati. Led by captain Laura Wolvaardt’s brilliant century and Marizanne Kapp’s fiery five-wicket haul, the Proteas secured their maiden entry into a World Cup final after previous semi-final exits in 2017 and 2022.
Batting first, South Africa posted a commanding 319/7, thanks to Wolvaardt’s majestic 169 off 143 balls, supported by Tazmin Brits (45), Marizanne Kapp (42) and Chloe Tryon (33*). England’s Sophie Ecclestone starred with the ball, taking 4 for 44, but her efforts couldn’t prevent South Africa’s strong finish.
Chasing 320, England were bowled out for 194 in 43 overs. Nat Sciver-Brunt (64) and Alice Capsey (50) fought hard with a 100-run stand, but Kapp’s sensational spell of 5/20 dismantled the batting lineup. Nadine de Klerk chipped in with two wickets as South Africa dominated throughout.
With this emphatic win, the Proteas advanced to their first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and Australia in Navi Mumbai.
