Bengaluru, July 2025 – The 7th Indian Open Para Athletics Championship kicked off in grand style at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, with over 260 para athletes showcasing world-class talent and determination. This edition is especially significant as it serves as the final selection trial for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships.
Paralympic star Sumit Antil dominated the Men’s Javelin Throw (F12 & F64), clinching gold with a stellar 72.25m throw. In the Women’s 100m (T12 & T13), Simran from Uttar Pradesh sprinted to victory in just 12.30 seconds. Deepthi Jeevanji of Telangana impressed in the Women’s 400m (T11, T12, T13 & T20) with a gold-winning time of 56.70 seconds.
Other highlights included:
Haryana’s Navdeep Singh topping Javelin F40 & F41 with 42.63m.
Rajasthan’s Sundar Singh Gujjar securing gold in Javelin F46 (64.53m).
SSCB’s Hokato Sema winning Men’s Shot Put (F56 & F57) with 14.88m.
Kerala’s Mohammed Basil Morssi clocking 10.95 seconds to win Men’s 100m (T46 & T47).
Uttar Pradesh’s Preeti Pal taking gold in Women’s 100m (T35, T37 & T42) with a 15-second dash.
The event, backed by Balmer Lawrie, AMFI, PlayAble by HDFC Ergo and Leonard Cheshire Disability, set an inspiring tone as India’s best para athletes gear up for the upcoming World Championships.
