Tamore Powers Panthers Past 200 as Rahane’s Men Outclass Suryakumar’s Knights

Mumbai, June 2: Ajinkya Rahane’s North Mumbai Panthers launched their Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai League 2026 campaign in commanding fashion, defeating Suryakumar Yadav-led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East by 21 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Batting first on a batting-friendly surface, the Panthers posted the tournament’s first 200-plus total, finishing on 209/5. Opener Hardik Tamore starred with a brilliant 67 off 43 balls, striking nine fours and two sixes. He shared a 67-run opening stand with captain Ajinkya Rahane (24), setting the platform for a big score.

The momentum continued through Aayush Zimare (23) and Ayush Vartak (39), while Tanush Kotian provided the finishing touch with a blistering unbeaten 30 off just 15 deliveries, helping the Panthers cross the 200-run mark.

In reply, the Knights faced an uphill task from the outset. Their chase suffered an early setback with both openers dismissed cheaply before Suryakumar Yadav walked in to a roaring reception. The India T20 captain played a quickfire knock of 19, hitting four boundaries, but his dismissal by left-arm spinner Rahul Sawant proved to be a turning point.

Impact substitute Nutan Goel kept the Knights in contention with a superb 93 off 56 balls. The young batter showcased his range of strokes and brought up a 32-ball half-century, but lacked sufficient support at the other end as the required rate continued to climb.

Sawant’s twin strikes and disciplined bowling from the Panthers restricted the Knights to 188/8, sealing a convincing victory. The result gives Rahane’s side a strong start to the season and valuable early momentum in the tournament.
