Houston, June 23, 2026: Cristiano Ronaldo scripted another historic moment in football as Portugal defeated Uzbekistan 5-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group K clash in Houston. The Portuguese captain became the first player to score in six different FIFA World Cup editions.
The 41-year-old forward scored twice to help Portugal register a dominant victory. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a close-range finish after João Cancelo’s cross found him inside the box. He later doubled the lead with a brilliant strike following a pass from Bruno Fernandes.
With his brace, Ronaldo took his World Cup goal tally to 10 and surpassed Portugal legend Eusébio to become the nation’s highest scorer at the global tournament.
Nuno Mendes added another goal for Portugal with a superb free-kick between Ronaldo’s two strikes, giving the team a comfortable advantage. Uzbekistan suffered further setbacks after an own goal extended Portugal’s lead.
Substitute Rafael Leão completed the 5-0 rout with a powerful late finish, sealing a convincing win in front of 68,777 fans at the stadium.
Uzbekistan showed some attacking intent but struggled to break through Portugal’s defence, while the European side controlled the match from start to finish.
