Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma has added another prestigious achievement to his illustrious career after being honoured with the Padma Shri award by President Droupadi Murmu at the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Rohit was among the prominent sportspersons recognised in the Padma Awards 2026. The award acknowledges his remarkable contribution to Indian cricket, including his leadership, consistency, and unforgettable performances on the international stage.
Known for his elegant batting style, powerful six-hitting ability, and record-breaking ODI double centuries, Rohit has become one of India’s most successful white-ball cricketers. His captaincy has also played a major role in shaping the country’s modern cricket journey.
The 2026 Padma Shri sports honours also recognised several other athletes. India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur was named among the awardees, marking a special year for Indian cricket. Hockey stars Baldev Singh and Savita Punia were also honoured for their contributions to the sport.
Other Padma Shri awardees from sports included Bhagwandas Raikwar, K Pajanivel, Praveen Kumar, and Vladimer Mestvirishvili (posthumously). Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj was awarded the Padma Bhushan.
