England booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals with a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in Miami, as Jude Bellingham produced another match-winning performance with two goals.

Norway struck first in the 36th minute when Andreas Schjelderup finished clinically after being set up by captain Martin Ødegaard. England responded just before the break, with Anthony Gordon providing the assist for Bellingham, who equalised in first-half stoppage time to make it 1-1.

The second half saw both teams create chances, while Norway also had a goal disallowed in a controversial moment involving Erling Haaland. With neither side able to find a winner in normal time, the quarter-final moved into extra time.

Bellingham once again proved decisive, scoring in the 93rd minute to complete his brace and send England into the last four. The 23-year-old continued his outstanding tournament form, becoming the second-youngest player after Pelé to score two or more goals in successive FIFA World Cup knockout matches.

England captain Harry Kane praised his side’s resilience, admitting the team has yet to reach its full potential despite progressing. Head coach Thomas Tuchel also acknowledged that England could improve, but lauded his players’ determination and fighting spirit in difficult conditions.

Former England stars Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney agreed that while the performance was not England’s best, having match-winners like Bellingham and Kane makes the difference in knockout football.

England will now face either Argentina or Switzerland in the semi-finals, with hopes of reaching the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since 1966.
