Bindyarani Devi Bags Bronze in Women’s 58kg Weightlifting at CWG 2026

Glasgow, July 27: India’s impressive run in weightlifting at the 2026 Commonwealth Games continued as Bindyarani Devi clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 58kg category on Monday. The experienced lifter delivered a strong performance, finishing with a total lift of 199kg, comprising 87kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk.

Bindyarani opened her campaign confidently in the snatch, successfully lifting 83kg, 85kg and 87kg across her three attempts. She then added 112kg in the clean and jerk to secure third place on the podium.

Nigeria’s Rafiatu Folashade dominated the competition, winning the gold medal with a Games record total of 229kg, while Canada’s Ann Sophie Taschereau claimed silver with a total lift of 215kg.

The bronze medal marked another significant achievement for Bindyarani, who had previously won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She also finished runner-up at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad, underlining her consistency on the international stage.

Bindyarani’s medal was India’s fifth in weightlifting and sixth overall at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Indian weightlifters have continued to deliver impressive performances, strengthening the country’s medal tally and maintaining its reputation as one of the strongest nations in Commonwealth weightlifting.

With several events still to come, India will look to build on this momentum and add more medals as the Commonwealth Games progress.
