Glasgow, July 28: Indian high jumper Sarvesh Kushare created history by becoming the first Indian to win a silver medal in the men’s high jump at the Commonwealth Games. The national record holder achieved the milestone with a successful clearance of 2.25 metres in the final.

Kushare delivered a consistent performance throughout the competition, clearing 2.25m to secure second place on the podium. He then made three attempts at 2.28m but was unable to cross the height, settling for a historic silver medal.

Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford claimed the gold medal after producing the best jump of the event, while Kushare’s silver marked a breakthrough moment for Indian athletics at the Commonwealth Games.

The achievement adds another memorable chapter to Kushare’s impressive season. The Maharashtra athlete has been in excellent form in 2026, having represented India at the Diamond League and continued to improve on the international stage.
