The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15.
Shubman Gill will continue as captain, while KL Rahul has been appointed vice-captain. The series marks India’s next assignment in the ICC World Test Championship, with the team aiming to improve its position in the standings.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the squad, although his participation will depend on clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. Young batter B. Sai Sudharsan has also been selected but is awaiting fitness approval.
India have been dealt a setback with all-rounder Washington Sundar ruled out of the opening Test due to a hamstring injury. Left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Saransh Jain has been named as his replacement for the first match.
The squad also features Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Devdutt Padikkal.
The first Test will be played in Galle from August 15, followed by the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from August 23.
India will be looking to continue its strong record in Sri Lanka after its dominant Test series victory during its previous tour. With a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent, the visitors will aim to make a positive start to the new phase of their World Test Championship campaign.
