Bangladesh Create History, Beat Australia by 9 Wickets in Darwin

Bangladesh scripted a historic victory on Sunday, August 16, defeating Australia by nine wickets in the first Test in Darwin. The win marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test victory on Australian soil, ending a 23-year wait for their return to Australia.

After being bowled out for 198 in their first innings, Australia fought back to post 284 in the second innings. However, Bangladesh’s dominant first-innings total of 426 gave them a crucial advantage and left the hosts with a manageable target of 57 runs.

Bangladesh needed only 14.2 overs to complete the chase on Day 4. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side finished on 57 for one, securing a memorable nine-wicket victory over Pat Cummins’ Australia.

The result is particularly significant given Bangladesh’s long absence from Australian Test cricket. Their disciplined bowling and strong batting performance throughout the match helped them overpower the hosts and register one of the biggest Test wins in their history.

Hasan Mahmud played a key role with the ball, leading Bangladesh’s attack and helping put Australia under pressure.

The victory also gives Bangladesh a major boost in their Test campaign, while Australia will have plenty to reflect on after a disappointing performance in Darwin.

Brief Score: Bangladesh 426 & 57/1 beat Australia 198 & 284 by 9 wickets.
