Jaiswal, Fernando Face Off After Fiery Send-Off in Colombo

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando were involved in a heated exchange during the opening session of the second Test in Colombo on Sunday.

Jaiswal, who had looked comfortable at the crease, was dismissed for 45 off 53 balls in the 17th over. The left-hander struck nine boundaries before Fernando found a way through his defence.

Fernando celebrated the wicket animatedly and appeared to exchange words with Jaiswal. The Indian opener initially walked away but then turned back towards the Sri Lankan pacer, leading to a tense confrontation between the two players.

The pair came close to each other and continued exchanging words before Sri Lanka captain intervened and separated them. The incident briefly overshadowed an otherwise competitive opening session at the Sinhalese Sports Club.

Fernando had been under pressure after conceding three boundaries to Jaiswal in the previous over. However, he responded with a delivery that curved back in from round the wicket. Jaiswal attempted to punch it through the off side but got a thick inside edge, with the ball ricocheting onto the stumps.

India lost both openers during the morning session, with KL Rahul departing earlier. The visitors reached 66/2 at lunch after captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat.

India entered the second Test with a 1-0 series lead following their 165-run victory in Galle. They need to avoid defeat in Colombo to secure a series win.
