The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licences of five prominent clubs in Mumbai, including the Cricket Club of India (CCI), following inspections that found serious lapses in food safety and hygiene standards.
The action was taken after officials conducted inspections at several food establishments across the city, including clubs, restaurants and canteens. During the drive, authorities identified multiple violations related to hygiene practices, food handling and compliance with licensing regulations.
Apart from CCI, the clubs facing licence suspension include RK Juhu Gymkhana, Aparna Juhu Gymkhana, MIG Cricket Club and Willingdon Sports Club. Meanwhile, Goregaon Sports Club in Malad West has been directed to stop its food business operations after officials found it was operating without a valid food licence or registration.
The inspection campaign covered seven establishments in total. While five clubs had their licences suspended, one establishment was ordered to halt food operations and another was served an improvement notice, requiring corrective measures within the prescribed time.
The FDA said the action aims to ensure that food served at public establishments meets safety and hygiene standards. The affected clubs are expected to address the identified deficiencies before seeking restoration of their licences.
The inspection drive is part of the regulator’s broader effort to strengthen food safety compliance across Mumbai and protect consumers by ensuring that food businesses follow the required health and sanitation norms.
