World No. 1 Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon men’s singles title with a commanding 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 victory over Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the 2026 final at Centre Court.
The Italian recovered impressively after narrowly losing the opening-set tie-break and produced a clinical display to win the next three sets, capturing his second consecutive Wimbledon title. Sinner’s consistency on serve, powerful baseline game and composure under pressure proved decisive against a determined Zverev, who was playing in his maiden Wimbledon final.
The victory marked another milestone in Sinner’s remarkable career, making him the first man in 48 years to win the Wimbledon title after surviving a five-set first-round match. He also continued his dominance over Zverev, extending his winning streak against the German to nine consecutive matches.
Despite the defeat, Zverev enjoyed his best-ever Wimbledon campaign. The French Open champion reached his first final at the All England Club and will rise to World No. 2 in the ATP rankings after the tournament.
During the trophy presentation, Sinner praised his opponent, saying Zverev was “so close” and backed him to lift the Wimbledon trophy in the future. Zverev responded with humour, joking that he no longer liked Sinner after losing to him nine times in a row, before acknowledging the Italian as the best player in the world.
With back-to-back Wimbledon titles and another Grand Slam added to his collection, Sinner has further strengthened his position at the top of men’s tennis and reaffirmed his status as the player to beat on the biggest stages.
