Neeraj Chopra Wins CWG 2026 Silver, Yash Vir Singh Bags Bronze in Historic Double Podium for India

India’s Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, while Yash Vir Singh secured bronze, marking India’s first-ever double podium finish in the event at the Games.

Neeraj, the reigning Olympic champion and 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, produced his best throw of 85.83m to finish second. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage claimed the gold medal with an impressive 89.75m effort, while Yash Vir Singh took bronze with a throw of 85.41m. India’s third entrant, Rohit Yadav, finished seventh.

Neeraj opened the competition with a throw of 80.97m before moving into the lead with 85.83m in his second attempt. However, Pathirage responded with a championship-winning throw of 89.75m, which remained unbeaten despite Neeraj’s final four attempts.

The result earned Neeraj his second Commonwealth Games medal, adding to the historic gold he won at the 2018 Gold Coast Games. He had missed the 2022 Birmingham edition due to a groin injury.

Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem had a disappointing outing, finishing ninth and failing to qualify among the top eight finalists.

India’s silver and bronze medals underline the country’s growing strength in javelin throw, with Neeraj Chopra and Yash Vir Singh delivering a memorable double podium finish on the Commonwealth Games stage.
