Colombo, August 25, 2026: Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has received an official reprimand for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test against India in Colombo.

Jayasuriya was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, ground equipment, fixtures or fittings during an international match.

The incident occurred at the end of the second day’s play when Jayasuriya was dismissed with the final delivery of the day. Frustrated after losing his wicket, he struck the boundary wedges with his bat while walking back to the pavilion.

Along with the official reprimand, one demerit point has been added to Jayasuriya’s disciplinary record. It was his first offence under the ICC Code of Conduct in the previous 24 months.

Jayasuriya admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearing was required.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella.

Level 1 offences carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Under ICC regulations, four or more demerit points accumulated within a 24-month period are converted into suspension points. Two suspension points result in a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, depending on which format comes first.

Jayasuriya’s demerit point will remain on his disciplinary record for 24 months.
