Mumbai, July 23: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has spoken out on the nationwide protests over the NEET paper leak controversy, saying students’ disappointment is understandable and calling for a culture that rewards honesty and hard work.
In a post on social media, Tendulkar reflected on the values taught by his late father, who was a professor. “Failure is okay, cheating is not. Never take shortcuts,” he wrote, stressing that society has a collective responsibility to ensure merit is upheld. He said students naturally feel disheartened when their hard work is not rewarded and urged everyone to work together to restore their faith in the system.
The batting great added that parents, teachers, schools, friends and administrators all have a role in creating an environment where honesty is encouraged and merit prevails. “Young India is full of dreams and energy. They are the fuel to our success,” Tendulkar said, expressing confidence that solutions can be found to protect students’ aspirations.
Tendulkar’s remarks come amid widespread protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, with demonstrators demanding accountability and reforms in the examination system.
He joins several leading Indian sportspersons who have voiced concern over the issue. Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra, World Cup-winning cricketer Yuvraj Singh, Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and boxer Nikhat Zareen have also appealed for constructive dialogue and measures to safeguard the future of students.
Tendulkar’s message has received widespread attention, with many praising his emphasis on integrity, fairness and the importance of building a system where hard work is rewarded over shortcuts.
