India’s Seema Kaliramna secured the bronze medal in the women’s discus throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a best effort of 58.65m, adding another medal to India’s growing tally.
After opening with a foul, Seema bounced back with a throw of 57.32m before producing her medal-winning effort in the third round. Despite two more fouls and failing to improve on her final attempt, her 58.65m throw was enough to finish third.
India’s Nidhi Rani narrowly missed out on a podium finish. She improved to 57.10m in her third attempt but finished fourth. Jamaica’s Samantha Hall claimed the gold medal with 61.66m, while Canada’s Julia Tunks took silver with 60.67m.
Seema’s bronze marks a remarkable chapter in her career. The 27-year-old returned to top-level competition after motherhood, winning gold at the 2025 National Games and reclaiming the national title. Alongside her athletics career, she is also pursuing a PhD, making her Commonwealth Games medal an inspiring achievement.
The bronze was India’s 17th medal of the Games and the country’s fourth medal in athletics. Earlier in the day, Lovepreet Singh won silver in weightlifting.
In athletics, Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav, and Yashvir Singh qualified for the men’s javelin final, while Tejaswin Shankar climbed to second place in the men’s decathlon standings after five events, remaining in strong contention for a medal.
