The Indian women’s kabaddi team was felicitated by the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) and JioStar in Mumbai on Friday following their title-winning campaign at the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup in Dhaka. India defeated Chinese Taipei 35–28 in the final to lift their second successive World Cup trophy, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
Praising the achievement, JioStar CEO (Sports) Ishan Chatterjee said the team’s dominance marked a historic phase for women’s sport in India, inspiring young girls nationwide. PKL Chairman Anupam Goswami emphasized the long-term vision for women’s kabaddi, stating that the World Cup triumph represents a shared responsibility to build the sport sustainably.
Head coach V. Tejeswini Bai credited months of disciplined preparation for the success, while captain Ritu Negi highlighted the team’s unity, noting that collective effort outweighed individual setbacks. She added that nationwide recognition, including appreciation from the Prime Minister, made the victory even more meaningful.
AKFI President Vibhor Vineet Jain underlined kabaddi’s growing global footprint, citing strong competition from teams like Chinese Taipei and Iran. The felicitation event reflected not only India’s World Cup success but also the growing momentum and institutional support driving women’s kabaddi into a promising new era.
