Pipers, Mumba Masters and Continental Kings register big wins on Matchday 4 of GCL

India – December 17, 2025: Alpine SG Pipers strengthened their title push with a second straight win, while leaders upGrad Mumba Masters and defending champions Triveni Continental Kings also notched up comfortable victories on Matchday 4 of the Global Chess League (GCL) at the Royal Opera House on Wednesday.

The Pipers defeated Fyers American Gambits 10-4, highlighted by Leon Luke Mendonca’s clinical win over World Rapid Champion Volodar Murzin and a fighting victory by Nino in the women’s board. The result briefly lifted the Pipers to the top of the table.

upGrad Mumba Masters produced the most dominant performance of the day, thrashing PBG Alaskan Knights 18-2. Koneru Humpy and Player of the Match D Harika starred with crucial wins, while Wesley So and Bardiya Daneshvar also contributed as Mumba Masters consolidated their position at the top with 51 game points.

In the final match, Triveni Continental Kings beat Ganges Grandmasters 11-6, led by wins from Alireza Firouzja over Viswanathan Anand and Wei Yi against Vincent Keymer. After four matchdays, Mumba Masters and Continental Kings are tied on nine match points, setting up a blockbuster clash between the two on Matchday 5.
