Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain has received his first call-up to the Indian Test team after being named in the squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka. The 33-year-old replaces injured all-rounder Washington Sundar, who has been ruled out of the opening Test with a hamstring injury.

A right-arm off-spinner and dependable left-handed batter, Saransh has been one of the most consistent performers in Indian domestic cricket. Since making his first-class debut in 2014, he has built an impressive record, claiming 181 wickets and scoring 2,223 runs, establishing himself as a reliable all-round option.

Saransh played a key role in Madhya Pradesh’s historic Ranji Trophy triumph in 2022, contributing with both bat and ball throughout the campaign. His recent performances for India A against Sri Lanka A, including a six-wicket haul and an unbeaten 70 in the second unofficial Test, further strengthened his case for national selection.

Cricket runs in the family, with his father, Subodh Jain, having represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket. Over the years, Saransh has developed into a proven performer in red-ball cricket through consistent displays at the domestic level.

Despite his success in first-class cricket, Saransh is yet to feature in the Indian Premier League, having gone unsold in multiple IPL auctions.

His selection is a reward for years of perseverance and consistent performances, and the Sri Lanka series now presents him with an opportunity to make his mark on the international stage in India’s Test setup.
