India scripted history at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow as Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh became the country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games judo gold medallists.
Competing in the women’s 48kg final, 23-year-old Asmita Dey defeated Canada’s Heidi Quach 2-1 in a thrilling contest. After trailing early due to a penalty, Asmita fought back by pinning her opponent to level the score before sealing victory with a decisive attack in the Golden Score period.
In the men’s 60kg final, Harsh Singh produced a dominant performance to upset Australia’s Joshua Katz, the reigning Commonwealth bronze medallist. Harsh controlled the bout throughout and secured a commanding 10-0 victory.
Asmita dedicated her historic gold medal to her late father, Arjun Kumar Dey, thanking the Uttar Pradesh Police for supporting her career after his death in 2015. She also expressed gratitude to coach Yashpal Solanki for training her at the National Centre of Excellence in Bhopal.
The twin gold medals mark a landmark achievement for Indian judo, with Asmita and Harsh becoming the nation’s first Commonwealth Games judo champions and adding another memorable chapter to India’s campaign in Glasgow.
