India enforced the follow-on after bowling Sri Lanka out for 290 on Day 4 of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka were left 213 runs behind after India declared their first innings at 503 for nine. Despite a determined century from Sonal Dinusha, the hosts could not avoid the follow-on.

Resuming at 265 for eight, Sri Lanka needed 39 more runs to reach the follow-on target. Dinusha continued his impressive form against India, scoring a composed 103 off 162 balls. He reached his century with a boundary off Prasidh Krishna before debutant spinner Saransh Jain dismissed him, with KL Rahul completing the catch at slip.

Jain also claimed the wicket of Lahiru Kumara, registering his maiden Test wicket. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 290.

Earlier, Pasindu Sooriyabandara made 80, while Dhananjaya de Silva and Niroshan Dickwella fell cheaply. Ravindra Jadeja, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were among India’s successful bowlers.

India’s first innings was powered by Devdutt Padikkal’s 117 and Dhruv Jurel’s unbeaten 115. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant also made important contributions, with Pant scoring 63.

Sri Lanka began their second innings in the second session and must first erase the 213-run deficit to make India bat again.
