Mohammed Siraj Walks Off With Rib-Cage Injury Scare During Colombo Test

Colombo, August 26: India suffered a potential injury setback on Day 4 of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo after fast bowler Mohammed Siraj walked off the field following a heavy fall while attempting a catch.

The incident occurred during the 11th over of Sri Lanka’s second innings after India enforced the follow-on. Manav Suthar tossed the ball up to Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who attempted a slog sweep but top-edged the delivery towards deep mid-wicket.

Siraj sprinted in and stretched out in an attempt to complete the catch. Although the pacer got both hands to the ball, he could not hold on and landed heavily on his side. He immediately appeared to be in considerable pain and held his rib-cage area.

The Indian medical team attended to Siraj before taking him off the field. He subsequently received further treatment in the dugout. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had not issued an official update on the extent of his injury at the time of the report.

Siraj had already made an impact in Sri Lanka’s second innings, dismissing Lahiru Udara for three runs.

India had earlier declared their first innings at 503/9 before Sri Lanka were bowled out for 290, with young batter Sonal Dinusha scoring 103. India then enforced the follow-on.

At lunch, Sri Lanka were 83/2, still needing 130 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Pasindu Sooriyabandara was unbeaten on 35, while Kamindu Mendis was on 10. Ravindra Jadeja and Siraj had taken one wicket each.
